Monday is Washing Day is the story of more than a century of family life and the local history of Barrow in Furness. Whilst being an entertaining read it shows too how equality between the sexes is even now not easily attainable for women in small towns where the main industry is still very much male oriented. It also explores the theory that despite modern technology and shared roles in the home and workplace, many women are still paid less than men and are expected to do the majority of childcare. Have we really not come that far in 100 years?
